How it works

1

Type a first name

We fold accents and spelling variants so 'Jürgen', 'Jurgen' and 'JUERGEN' all land on the same record.

2

We weigh 55 countries

Every name carries a male-probability per country, weighted by how common it is there. Some names flip gender across borders — we show you exactly where.

3

Get a verdict and a greeting

Male, female, unisex, or country-dependent, with a confidence level and a ready-to-use salutation for formal or friendly email.

Some names change gender at the border

'Andrea' is female in most of the world and male in Italy. 'Nikita' is male in Russia and often female elsewhere. We flag every name like this as country-dependent so you never guess wrong on an international email.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the gender check?

It is a statistical estimate built from real birth and usage records across 55 countries, not a guarantee. High-confidence verdicts are right the vast majority of the time; low-confidence and unisex names are flagged so you know to double-check.

What if the name isn't in your database?

We cover hundreds of thousands of first names across Western, East Asian, South Asian, and Arabic naming traditions, plus a dedicated Chinese-character model for names we've never seen written in Latin script. If a name is genuinely missing, the neutral salutation is always the safe fallback.

Do you store the names I look up?

No. Lookups run against a static, pre-built dataset with no server-side logging of what you search.

Is this free?

Yes, the checker, the greeting generator, and the country guides are free to use. See the pricing page for the optional bulk API tier.
